PhD research study

What is the PhD research study about?

This PhD research study explores the underrepresentation of Black women in social work management and leadership in the UK.

This study considers the barriers and challenges Black women experience and the strategies they use to progress.

Research update

Qualitative semi structured interviews were conducted to gain the views of the research participants.

The research data is now in the analysis stage.

How will the research findings be shared?

The findings from the study will be made available in 12 to 18 months on completion of the PhD following the thesis submission and examination period.

The findings may also be published in academic journals, presented at conferences, and shared with relevant social work organisations, institutions and professional networks.

Data protection and confidentiality

All collected data is stored, and processed in line with UK GDPR and University ethical guidelines. Interview recordings are securely stored on encrypted, password-protected systems, and transcripts are anonymised. Only the researcher and supervisory team will have access to the raw data. Identifiable information will not be shared beyond the research team and assessors.

Confidentiality

Strict confidentiality is maintained throughout the research process. Participants’ names and identifiable details will not appear in the thesis or any publications. Pseudonyms will be used in transcripts, reports and presentations. The only circumstance under which confidentiality may be broken is if there is a disclosure of serious risk of harm to self or others, in which case appropriate safeguarding procedures will be followed.

All the information is confidential and anonymised and only shared with my supervisors, assessors at University of Bedfordshire and the examiners.

Dissemination of the research findings

On completion of the PhD following the examination process I provide a summary to participants, Local authorities and organisations.

Staff briefings will held held for staff, managers and leaders to consider how to implement the research recommendations.
